Amphora

ca. 520 BCE

The fight between Heracles and the Nemean lion, the first of Hercules' twelve labors, is depicted in black figures on this krater.

Ancestor Figure

ca. 1200-1300

This hermaphrodite African sculpture, which dates from the pre-Dogon period,  was created before the 15th century. It is believed that it is a representation of a mythic ancestor and not of a human being. 

Astrolabe

Date: 1726-1727

Because of its unusually large size, this finely engraved astrolabe, which combines East and West scientific knowledge, stands out. Navigators used it to calculate the position of the stars and determine the time of day.

Basin of Bonifilius

ca. 1300

Bonifilius, a famous architect, had designed the basin, which was placed at the entrance to a religious structure in northern Italy around the 13th century.

Bezique Game

Date: 1880

The game of cards is a household subject in Flemish genre painting.  Caillebotte, a well-known painter, takes it to the monumental scale of a history painting by placing it in the modernity of his time. In 1882, the Bezique Game was first featured in the catalog of the seventh Impressionist exhibition.

Bodhidharma

Date: 1602-1674

Kan Tan'y (16021674), a great 17th-century Japanese artist, depicts Bodhidharma, one of Zen's founders, in the Louvre Museum Abu Dhabi. The viewer is taken aback by the simplicity with which the monk's habit is suggested in a few influential strokes, which contrasts with the severity of his expression.

Bodhisattva

ca. 100-300 CE

This Bodhisattva is depicted with half-closed eyes, as if in deep meditation, which is a common expression in Indian religious traditions.

Brooch

Date - 2nd half phase of the 5th century

The Domagnano fibula, an iconic image of the "barbarian invasions" period, is a remarkable piece in the Louvre Abu Dhabi collection. In a shimmer of gold and garnets from Gujarat, India, this ravishing piece of jewelry manages to combine the ancient symbol of strength, the eagle, with the cross of the new Christian era.

Buddha Head

Date: From 534 CE to 550 CE, or From 550 CE to 577 CE

This Buddha's head was discovered in the temple or chapel of a monastery. Despite the fact that works of such plastic quality are rare, it has a style similar to many of the sculptures discovered at Qingzhou in Shandong and represents 6th-century Buddhist art.
